Shining Armor’s office was nothing more than a man cave of sorts. He spared one last look at the grounds before making his way to his office in the east tower. At the end of the doctors’ examination, the recruit was put onto a stretcher and wheeled off of the training grounds, leaving the guard to stare in disbelief as the guards and trainees went on with their rigorous training as though nothing had happened. His limp limbs and wings were poked and prodded at. In an instant, the recruit was snatched away from him and laid out on a blanket on the grass as the medical guards checked the young stallion’s vitals. Just then, a trio of medical guards came rushing onto the training grounds, medical supplies in their saddlebags as they sprinted towards the blue pegasus’ voice. The poor thing had probably barely reached the age requirement. He was a small, skinny thing no doubt doing this for the money that had been offered in exchange for his service in the Royal Guard. He found him: a blue furred pegasus holding a limp recruit in his arms. Shining Armor’s ears perked up at the voice, and he searched for the stallion that was shouting, voice hoarse from yelling. “Medic! We need a medic over here right now!” One guard suddenly yelled over the sounds of brutal training and wooden swords being hit against each other. He needed solutions and he needed them now. But, what else was he supposed to do? The Crystal Empire was in the midst of an epidemic. He supposed he could give them all a larger stretch of time.

These new guards wouldn’t be ready by the end of the week. Orders were being yelled harshly in the grounds, practice punches and kicks were being blocked left and right, and one trainee had just run out of the grounds crying. The new recruits were getting absolutely handled by their higher ups. Shining Armor paused at the center of the balcony and peered down at the training grounds. But it was all Shining Armor had been able to think of, the stress of the matter finally having gotten to him, along with so many other things in his life. He’d known it had been one of his more impulsive decisions so many resources would be used up to train the new stallions, a lot of overtime would be put in to have them trained and ready by the end of the week. And so, Shining Armor had recruited 50 new guards to be trained and ready to patrol the streets by the end of the week. They were even selling special whistles specifically for a pony to use when they had been pickpocketed. They’d put out an official list of parts of the Empire to avoid, had installed more cameras in the streets. They’d tried having stronger security at popular tourist locations. Of course, the rates had only risen as a result. When the problem had first arose, Shining Armor and Cadence had both ordered for there to be signs at the train station warning tourists of the pickpocketing problem. Especially not the rulers who were taking all of the preventative measures they could to make the kingdom a safe place for all, resident or not. No one wanted their home to be seen on the map as a death trap for tourists and their Bits and personal belongings. And, well, when you were the ruler of a prestigious kingdom such as the Empire, you had to do everything you could to keep the image of the kingdom as just that: prestigious. Prime targets for the pickpockets of the kingdom, the tourists who’d fallen victim to the criminal’s antics usually left the Crystal Empire unsatisfied, and spread the news to their friends back in their home cities.

As head commander, he didn’t necessarily need to be there, but he’d been walking through there far more often since summer break had started. Shining Armor walked along the balcony above the training grounds for the Crystal Empire Royal Guard. Stats: Published: Updated: Words: 18601 Chapters: 5/? Comments: 1 Kudos: 4 Hits: 29
